Garrett, son of Peter Dillon AKA Peter Dillow

Garrett is the son of Peter Dillon also known as Peter Dillow and Elizabeth Haworth on 6 MAR, 1776.

From "History of Dillon, Fletcher, and Kindred Families " by Henry Dillon (1909: According to Eli Marsahal of Rheatown TN in a letter written to Henry Dillon on 10 MAR 1888, Garrett's father, Peter Dillon also known as Peter Dillow immigrated from Frederick (Berkeley)(Jefferson, VA)(Jefferson, WV), County, VA to Guilford (Rowan), County about 1881.

The tradition has it that while Garrett's father Peter Dillon AKA Peter Dillow and his family were in Guilford (Rowan) County, NC, Sallie and Garratt could hear the guns of the Guilford Battle when they were out playing in the yard on 15 MAR 1781.

Garrett DILLON married Margaret EDMUNDSON on 8-APR-1797 in Greene County, TN. Margaret died in Greene County, TN. Garrett married his second wife, Margaret Rees (Reese). Garrett was in Greene County, TN in the TN Census in 1790 along with his brother Peter Dillon AKA Peter Dillow and other relatives.

Family members are grouped in the following manner: The first group of numbers represent males. The first position represents the number of males age 0 to under five. The second position represents the number of males age 5 to under 10. The 3rd position represents males 10 to 15. The 4th position represents the number of males 15 to 20. The 5th position represents the number of males 20 to 30. Each position after that increases in 10 year increments. The second group of numbers represents the numbers of females in the household in each age group.

Peter Dillow, Jr moved a few miles away and settled in Sullivan County, TN which is between Greene County and Washington County, TN where he settled down and raised a family of seventeen children by his first and second wives.

Garrett moved to IL in 1830. In 1830-- Garrett and Margaret Dillon) with children including Lydia, moved to Elwood Township, Vermilion County, Ill. In 1831--The Dillon family was received into membership (Mar.5) by Vermilion Monthly Meeting "on certificate from New Hope Monthly Meeting, Tennessee. Garrett and his second wife, settled on a farm near Georgetown where they both died there. They are buried at Elwood. (1909)

I. Susanna, the oldest child of Garrett, married Uriah Harrold in TN. Susanna and Uriah Harold had the following children:

  • Elizabeth..........:married Marion Fellows.
  • Wilton..............:second marriage to Julia A. Conaday. (Canaday)
  • Margaret.........:born 5 AUG 1827-13 AUG 1883: married Henry Dice 17 MAR 1822-1 FEB 1853.
    Margaret and her husband had five children.
    Henry Dillon (1909)'s notes only contain information about two of their children who grew up and married:

    1. George born in TN 10 April 1848 married Anna Foster of Hidge Farm, IL.

    2. Mary born 19 MAR 1851 married Archie Stephenson on 23 AUG 1866. Archie was born 13 FEB 1847-19 NOV 1906.

    Mary and Archie had the follwing children: Margaret, Olive, Charles W, Willima T, and Frank H.

    Archie Stephenson was a soldier in the Civil War.
  • John.................:born 1 MAY 1834, first married Sadie Sharp, second marriage Mary Whitehead.
  • Marion.............:first married Lou McFarland, second marriage Jane Smith.
    Marion had children by each of his wives. 1. Frank married Grace Reese (Rees). 2. Berice and Hazel.
  • Lucy.................:married George Dice.
  • Kate.................:married Richard Conaday. (Canaday).
  • Susanna's husband's family, the Harolds, lived in TN until the beginning of the Civil War when they moved to IL.

    Uriah Harold was a blacksmith by trade. He died in TN. His sons followed the trade; and also sold merchandise to the well-to-do.

    I assume these are Uriha's brothers. Walter Harold had one daughter by his first wife. John Harrold had two daughters: Rhonda and Della by his first wife; and two daughters by his second wife: Bernce and Hazel.

    II. Peter, the second child of Garrett died early.

    III. Betsy, third child fo Garrett, married Johanathan Vales. IV. Sara, fourth child of Garrett married Peter Likens and lived in IL. Their children are:
  • Polly...............:married Vincent Hawkins. They lived in Georgetown, IL.
  • James.............:went to Missouri.
  • Margaret.......:went to Iowa and probably married.
  • Hanna............:had red hair. She went to Iowa and got married.
  • Louis..............:thinks went to Missouri.

  • V. Mary, the fifth child of Garrett, married Williamson Price. They lived first in Elwood, and later nearRidge Farm IL. Price was a Virginian and a carpenter by trade which he worked for many years. Henry Dillon's father worked with him and learned the trade.

    He bought a farm near Ridge Farm where he lived until his wife, Polly died. He sold the farm and moved to Missouri, and went soon after to Cheorkee, KS. He was an imperioous man, impetient, very much alive with his own interest. He loved his wife and children but they did not always do what he wanted them to do.

    They had a family of five children who grew up and married as follows:
    V.1. Sara Pirce, born in IL aabout 1830. Sara Price married Saumel weeks in IL. Samuel was a blacksmith by trade. They first lived in Georgetown and then ridge Farm. He began selling medicine; and became something of an eye doctor.

    His wife, Sara, was afflictd with sore eyes for many years and became both nearly blind and deaf in her old age.

    About, 1870 they moved to Jasper County, Missouri where I (Henry Dillon) saw them in 1889. Samuel was a minister amoung "Friends." Sara died in 1915.

    Sara Price, daughter of of Mary, daughter of Garrett, and Samuel Weeks had the following children:
  • John M...........:28 JAN 1847; first married Evaline Mills born 13 JAN 1846; his second wife Sarah Ellen Rees (Reese).
  • Mary..............: married William Green; children are: Asba, Anna.
  • Mack.............: married Jennie Christie
  • Martha...........: married Jerry Haworth; children are; Ivan P and George T.
  • Lennos...........:
  • George P........: married Sarah ?.
  • V.2. James S Price, second son of William and Polly Price was born in IL: married Margaret Steelman of NY state. James considered himself a very important man. His execsses brought his father both trouble and expense.

    After James S marriage, he ran a small store in Ridge Farm until the war came. He enlisted in 1862 in the 79th Infantry, Company A where he made 1st Leutenant, and later promoted to Capitan. His war record wa splendid.

    After coming home, he moved to Buckley, Iroquise County, IL. He went into the grocery business there but the business failed. He moved to Richomnd, IN. He deserted his family, and were reduced to poverty. His wife took the kids and went to live with Jame's father in Kansas.

    James went back to his family and they ren a hotel in Barter Springs. He retired to a small farm where he lived until he died when he was nearly eighty years of age.

    James S Price and his wife, Margaret, had the following children" Eva, Adda, Frank, and Willie. Margaret also died 7 NOV 1909. Sara Weeks died 29 AUG 1915.

    V.3. Virginia Ann, third child of Mary and Williamson Price married Erasmus Folger. They lived for a number of years in the vacinity of Pilot Grove, IL. They moved to Jasper County, Missouri where they lived for a number of years before he died.

    They belonged to the "Friends" church and he was a leading member. He was a farmer during most of his liffe. He taught several terms of school in his younger days. Eramous Folger was an honest and upright man.

  • V.4. John Richison Price, fourth child of williamson and Mary, daughter of Garrett, married Emily Maris in 1862. They moved to Ash Grove, Iroqis County, IL and bought a nice farm containing over 200 acres. They lived there unitl 1870.

    He worked with livestock, and shipped a considerable amount of livestock.

    In 1870 he sold out and went to his father in Missouri for a short time; and then moved on to cherokee, KS. He got inot the retail business, but was not successful at that and lost most of his money.

    He became a butcher, and shipping livestock to Kansas City.

    Tennessee State Library and Archives: TENNESSEE DEATH INDEX 1914-1925: GRAINGER COUNTY : PART 1 ( A - G ) lists a Daniel Dillon age 89 died in 1920. He would have been born in 1831. DILLON  Daniel   89 1920  Grainger  #281
