Berkeley County was formed from Frederick County. Jefferson County was formed from Berkeley County. Jefferson County later became what is now present day WV.

We think Peter Dillow was in Guilford County in 1781, because the family tradition says left VA and went to NC about 1781. While he was there his children Sallie born in 1774 and Garret born 1776 were playing in the yard and they could hear the guns from the Guilford Battle 15 MAR 1781.

Peter Dillow is on the tax list for the year of 1783. This is the first year that Greene County, TN began to collect taxes from its residents. There were not too many residents in Greene County at that time. In fact, Peter Dillow is considered an early pioneer in Green County, TN because he left behind tax records of the times that he lived in Greene County, TN.

Peter's Uncle William and his family lives in Frederick Count (Berkeley County), VA which is also not but a few miles from Green County, TN. His first born son, GARRAETT, born in about 1776 had come of age, and must now pay taxes if he owns anything taxable. It does not show Garrett Dillon as owning any land in Green County, TN in the year 1798.

About 1790 a large number of Friends or Quakers began to come into the county from Pennsylvania and North Carolina, although a number of person of that faith had come several years before.
